Who doesn’t love a good time – DJD Modern Vaudevillians

Who doesn’t love a good time – DJD Modern Vaudevillians

If you want to have a good time, go see Modern Vaudevillians showing on DJD’s most amazing Dance Centre stage. If you haven’t had a chance to see the theatre yet, now’s the time.

DJD has always known how to dazzle us and this show is more dollops of the delicious same. The company performs with verve, and seductively expresses the talent that so naturally flows in and around the company. Accompanied by suave and original live music, which is a hallmark of DJD, Modern Vaudevillians takes us on a romp through the comedic and the physical. Part slapstick, part mime and part acrobatic, the show moves smoothly between genres, letting company members and guests strut their very impressive stuff.

They’re joined by friends, choreographers Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg, Linnea Swan and Michèle Moss ;  Old Trout Puppet Workshop member, Peter Balkwill; clown, Troy Emery Twigg; chanteuse Alison Lynch; and aerialist, Patrick Chan. They spare no effort in seizing the variety show format to make their audience laugh out loud at the silliness, gasp at the daring and swoon at the sassiness of it all.

The rhythm of the evening takes us from Balkwill’s hilarious and simple mime, super talented Lynch’s sexy and funny songs, Chan’s breathtaking acrobatics and the choreographers’ bold, sometimes goofy, dances. The dancers can’t help themselves – they embody the the jazz form and twist it into any and all shapes. And they are really funny too.

It’s a great way to spend an evening removed from any heaviness that our times brings on. Forget all your cares for a couple of brief hours and immerse yourself in this light hearted show.

Just sayin’.

Modern Vaudevillians runs Apr 20, 2017 to May 5, 2017 at the DJD Dance Centre.
